Which direction did you move the arm to for the EGR valves to be constantly open? Forth toward the front of the engine or back?

Totally normal, newer diesels has vacuum/venting pumps pressurizing the crank case apparently. Dont worry about it

Block off the line from the vacuum pump. The vac pump vents into the crank case and causes weird "blow by". If you block off the outlet ports on the vacuum pump and it still does it you may have a issue. But tbh the crank case venting on some of these 4cylinder diesels isnt the greatest.

My dad scared me when he told me check the oil cap and it was doing the same thing. I just bought a e250 with 90k miles. Dealer maintain. Mine runs great and no check engine light

search "diesel blowby" on youtube and you will see real blowby

Thats ok. I went nuts with the blowby on mine. Its been years now and still runs fine.

is PCV valve ok?

The first time I did this job, it took all day and I got my arm burned on the exhaust somehow. The second time I was prepared and it took under 2 hours, taking my time.

Very good video, I bought a GLK250 with 180k miles back in march. Now it has 187k miles I have replaced the intercooler hose along with the boost elbow, and the intake pipe.

Hey man, first thing first - absolutely love your channel man. Some stuff you explain is priceless. On another hand, I was thinking to buy this scanner and then i saw all negative reviews on Amazon. People use it, there is an update, people do update it and then "repurchasing" option pups up and manufacturer is ignoring customers. So my isssue is that it will work for unknown period of time and then it becomes paper weight. Can you recommend any other brand please?

Great information on this repair! When do you replace vs reuse the oil cooler? There’s 2 aftermarket coolers from China available and 1 Mercedes from Germany, what’s your thoughts? How do you cleanup those manifolds, they look new? Many thanks.

I have a 2014 E250 bluetec im gonna help some family with, we have the code that shows the switch over valve, the controller for the water pump vacuum control thing, we just ordered the special change over valve 002 540 14 97 part number, but no idea how to get to it. I have seen it done on some mercedes sprinter vans and even smart cars have this exact valve but theres some other tubes and pipes in the way. Im thinking of just loosening the clamps that hold those other tubes so i dont have to remove the ones above and around it just to get to it... If you can think of any videos showing this being done please let me know

If the engine runs... is this the cause why the OM642 turns of during driving? Diesel tank is at 3/4 capacity and my engine went off when i let it off the gas at 150km/h the rpm went to zero. I only noticed it as the gearbox went into Neutral and the car coasted restarted the OM642 and while coasting it was idling nice switched to drive and cluster showed "D" Cluster shoed Gear 7 (G9 Gearbox) at 100km/h and made the car drive again normal.. you can imagine my pulse going way up on the autobahn..

Great video !! and a nice efficient engine. On my GLK (rear drive, 200CDI, no adblue) - only had 2 problems: intercooler air hose (black one) - typical crack and eventual burst takes place typically after 70k miles and is easy to replace, the other one is Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAF) mulfunction - and I will attepmt to clean it myself using MAF cleaner - hopefully I'll get itback to normal operation, otherise - need to replace.

Great video. I’m in the process of doing this job and decided to delete the swirl flaps. I have the 2 magnet sensors as mine is a 2014. Do you know if putting the wire in the 2 middle slots will still work for mine or is there an additional step I need to take. Thanks in advance.

My OM651 has 198 000 km on it. I have done two things on it except regular maintenance. 1) Tightened the 12 (?) bolts on the valve cover. It's made of plastic an without metal inserts for the bolts. So how long will they keep the tension....it leaked quite a lot. 2) Changed the DPF diff pressure sensor. Very easy to do. I love the 2010 C-class, but of course don't like to think about all the plastic parts in there. I can only hope for the best, and keep changing the oil every 8000 km. I plan to change the transmission oil this summer. It was last changed at 60 000km. 😮😮😮

The OM642 is known for stuck oil rings, they can easily burn a liter per 300 miles.

Engine is great the emission system was a pain in the butt. Twice a year a trip to the dealer for NOx sensors. Finaly gave up and the DPF fell off. No more problems.

First can is the DOC and the second one is the DPF

Thank you for this but i'm confused! I have a year 2000 E55 AMG and it has a really horrible whacking/slapping/knock/rattle at certain load/rpm and it sounds like it's coming right from under the armrest where the secondary cats are, you can feel it rattling/knocking the tunnel of the car. But it seems to be more related to load/rpm rather than a specific speed i.e. if i am half throttle going from 2nd to 3rd gear it will make this horrid load slapping rattle, if i drive the car more gentle in this condition i can avoid it making the noise, flooring the car you'll hear it for a split second as it passes this threshold, half throttle it will osciallte/rattle for longer until it passes "through" the "zone" sorry if my explanation isn't making sense! I do not feel it in my feet more at the armrest... It does also vibrate the whole car at around 60mph but its more subtle and is felt through the whole car.... I really want to get it sorted out :(

What a really helpful and interesting video. It has given me a great overall picture of the OM651 engine. Sadly it didn’t help me to diagnose an issue that I’m having with mine. I’m hoping you may be able to shed some light on a loud “ticking” noise I’m getting from the front/top of my engine? I’ve changed and serviced the injectors and replaced the hydraulic valve lifters. It still makes the same noise. The engine has done 230,000 miles and still pulls fine. I’m reluctant to use it till I can diagnose this issue. Any ideas before I look to pulling out the engine?
